Calling all OEM's and Machine Builders - The new Micro800 SMS Plug-in Module

The ProSoft Technology SMS Plug-in Module adds bi-directional SMS text messaging capability to the Allen-Bradley Micro830 family of controllers.

Operating over the GSM mobile network, the plug-in module provides a cost-effective and secure method for OEMs to add remote communication features using mobile phones as the user interface to their machines and systems.

Features
       Benefits
Adds bi-directional SMS text messaging to the Micro830 controller family

  • Improves OEM machine and system competitiveness with cost-effective and tailored remote communications
  • Adds significant features such as remote alarming, environmental/energy monitoring, data collection, machine condition, inventory status alerts and production counts
Compatible with GSM mobile networks worldwide using secure Short Message Service (SMS) with whitelist option
  • Deploy the plug-in module wherever it is needed worldwide (pending country approvals) over the GSM mobile network
  • Highly secure using SMS network completely isolated from the end user IT network
  • Whitelist phone number option sets a designated list of allowed incoming originator numbers, thus securing access to only a few designated users
Pre-programmed CCW Function Block drivers and sample program included
  • Shortens development and testing time using industry standard programming languages (Ladder Logic, Structured Text and Function Block)
External antennas supported
  • External antenna mounting ensures strong and reliable mobile network connections

As the module uses SMS, there is no need for costly mobile data plans. The SMS Plug-in snaps into an open slot in the front of the Micro830 controller. The controller provides power and all communications are over the backplane.

The front mounted coax connector allows for either a direct-mounted antenna or externally mounted antenna (installed outside the panel or cabinet for better mobile reception). Antennas are not included and must be ordered separately.

The SMS plug-in is activated by installing a standard GSM SMS SIM card (contact your local GSM phone provider for plan options and costs). After activation it will connect to the local provider tower and enable bi-directional text messaging between the controller and remote mobile phones.

PROFINET migration made easy!

HMS Industrial Networks now releases a series of new Anybus X-gateways enabling an easy way to connect existing subsystems to PROFINET.

What’s new?

  • HMS now extends the connectivity to cover PROFINET IRT (Isochronous Real Time) for both copper cabling and fibre optics
    • New networks for copper are ControlNet, EtherNet/IP and DeviceNet
    • New networks for fibre optics are PROFIBUS and CANopen

How it works:

  • The new Anybus X-gateways copy I/O-data between any industrial network and PROFINET IRT
  • Gateway settings regarding, for example, I/O sizes are configured in a Windows-based terminal interface which means no programming is necessary
  • The PROFINET interface of the X-gateway works as an I/O-Device on the PROFINET IRT network and supports up to 220 bytes of I/O for both input and output data
  • The gateway baud rate is 100Mbit/s (full duplex) and uses two RJ45 connectors (copper) or two SC-RJ connectors (Fibre Optic) allowing installations in line or ring topology
  • The integrated 2-port IRT switch is another very valuable asset, as it eliminates the need for expensive external switches

Making PROFINET migration possible:
“PROFINET IRT is used by many of the large European car manufacturers, most notably within the AIDA group and is one of the fastest growing industrial Ethernet networks on the market,” says Niklas Selander, product Manager at HMS.

“By using an Anybus X-gateway, plant owners can keep existing equipment and simply connect it to PROFINET IRT networks. This maximizes the investment in their current machinery and speeds up the migration to PROFINET. Machine builders also benefit since they do not have to develop this connectivity themselves but can just use an Anybus X-gateway to connect their machines to PROFINET IRT.”

Extending Ethernet at double the rate - Westermo DDW-142

Westermo Ethernet extender technology, based on SHDSL, makes it possible to reuse many types of pre-existing copper cables which can lead to considerable financial savings when installing new systems.

The Wolverine DDW-142 allows effective Ethernet networks to be created over long distances (up to 15km (9.3mi)) at data rates up to 15.3 Mbit/s on a single twisted pair cable.
By using two pairs 'bonded', this rate can be doubled up to
30.4 Mbit/s.

The integral switch allows 2 Ethernet devices to be attached and an RS-232 port allows for a legacy piece of equipment to be incorporated into the IP network.

The DDW-142 is incredibly flexible and easy to use. A basic point to point or multi-drop network can be created without the need for any kind of configuration.

A CLI interface is also provided, making the unit easy for networking professionals to quickly master. Once the system is configured, an easy solution is available for the maintenance engineer - USB backup and restore means that stored configurations can be automatically downloaded from a USB stick.

Keep your equipment warm and dry with Rittal enclosure heaters

Rittal enclosure heaters provide a high level of energy efficiency due to the incorporation of self-regulating positive temperature coefficient (PTC) technology.

Developed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), these heaters provide superior heating performance whilst maintaining the physical dimensions of previous models.

Fitting - Two Options:
  • Snap-fastening onto 35mm support rails
  • Direct screw-fixing onto the mounting plate and the quick and easy assembly is completed using clamp-type wiring terminals
Precise temperature control is achieved simply by including a thermostat in the supply to the heater. Alternatively, where low air temperatures inside the enclosure are to be avoided to prevent the formation of condensation, control may be effected by connecting a hygrostat in the same manner. Both a thermostat and hygrostat can be integrated so that the heater is controlled on both temperature and relative humidity.

The operating temperature range of electrical equipment tends to have a lower limit as well as an upper one. Therefore providing heating in either indoor or outdoor enclosures may be as crucial as supplying cooling, particularly in changeable climates.

With thermal outputs in the range of 10W to 800W, either a single Rittal enclosure heater or multiples thereof, can maintain a warm and dry environment for electrical equipment, whatever the size of enclosure.
