Routeco announce GAMBICA membership

Routeco is very proud to announce that we have recently become a member of GAMBICA, the trade association for instrumentation, control, automation and laboratory technology within the UK.

With many of our manufacturing supply partners already holding GAMBICA membership Routeco are now also able to offer an insight to the association from a technical distribution perspective within the Industrial Automation industry sector.

This new partnership will enable Routeco to participate in association groups where we can work alongside other established UK industrial automation companies to share technical knowledge, market intelligence and collaborate on strategic initiatives such as driving forward Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) adoption within the UK manufacturing industry.

Steve Brambley, Director of Public Affairs at GAMBICA comments
“We are really pleased to welcome Routeco into membership of GAMBICA, increasing our representation and building our knowledgebase of the industry. With Routeco joining, it not only strengthens our pool of industry experts but brings a new perspective from their technical distribution experience.”

Through serving our large customer base of machine builders, manufacturers, system integrators and panel builders, who are all operating within a broad range of different industrial sectors, our knowledge, expertise and close relationships with our customers allow us to remain at the forefront of industrial automation, and our new membership with GAMBICA will further assist us in achieving our goal to become both our customers and suppliers ‘Partner of Choice’ for control & automation products.

Extension to Rockwell Automation’s Stratix 5400 portfolio

Rockwell Automation is extending the existing Stratix portfolio of industrial network infrastructure products to include a switch with an all Gigabit (GE) platform.

The Allen-Bradley Stratix 5400 industrial managed switch supports layer 2 switching and layer 3 routing with GE Power over Ethernet (PoE) and additional GE fibre ports, which enhance scalability for use in various applications.

This addition to the portfolio exhibits increased versatility with the ability to support multiple network configurations. When used as a layer 2 switch, the Stratix 5400 is an ideal solution for heavy industry applications where dual ring architectures are required or where high performance end devices, such as video or telephony, are needed.

When acting as a Layer 3 switch, routing is enabled between segmented networks for better performance and protection from unwanted network traffic. Segmenting the network helps to ease network changes, to simplify network security management by building domains of trust and to increase efficiency.

By choosing a switch co-developed by Rockwell Automation and Cisco, your Operations Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) professionals leverage tools and technology that is familiar to them. By helping to provide optimised integration, you can experience easier commissioning and faster diagnostics retrieval.

The Stratix 5400 range is available to purchase online here.

Down to the wire - building a resilient network infrastructure

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a trending topic in the technology world. The Internet of Things can be defined as the connection and interaction of objects to the Internet or networks.

With the Internet of Things increasingly broadening the production space to connect Operations Technology (OT) with Information Technology (IT), it's never been more important to build a highly resilient network infrastructure, as this article from Panduit outlines.

The article also includes tips on how to begin implementing the Internet of Things including assessment steps for manufacturers to undertake to understand their bandwidth and cable requirements.

How do you think IoT will affect you? Do you think it will create the business opportunities (to the value of $3.8 trillion for the manufacturing industry) Panduit expect? Let us know your thoughts below.
